The insulation industry is plagued by corrosion issues, mostly on below
ambient piping systems where the moisture drive is to the pipe. It
is virtually impossible to install and insulation system that is devoid
of moisture. There is moisture in the air when it is installed and
there is moisture in the insulation. You can almost say that an electrolyte
is an installed component of your insulation system! (see
our page on the corrosion process).

Joint sealants and vapor barriers are installed for the purpose of keeping
future moisture out of the system, but have no effect on moisture which
is present during the installation.

There are many products used to delay the corrosion process, primers,
paints, wax tapes, epoxies, fusion bonded epoxy, pre-insulated pipes.
All are effective to a degree, and will delay the corrosion process.

The simple installation of 20-30 mills of RG-2400 is the only way to
assure that you will never have corrosion under your insulation.

By growing a three
dimensional mineral lattice onto and into the metal surface, and by
buffering any moisture present (see
our page on buffering
water) there is no way that your system can ever corrode – unless
there is mechanical damage to the system exposing new metal. RG-2400
is a permanent corrosion solution.
