Marine applications are difficult for any product, the combination of wet/dry, salt, sun exposure, oxygen exposure, and wave action play havoc with any coating system for marine use on pilings. Add to that the chances of physical damage from boats, drift wood or other debris, and you have a nightmare.

Current systems involve removing the existing rust and corrosion, applying a paste to the surface, and then applying a petrolatum tape, a polyethylene sleeve, and stainless steel banding.

The process is time consuming and costly.

The greatest challenge is drying the pipe and remediation of the corrosion; it can be done at low tide, but the wet dry cycle during the work is counter productive.
