Welcome to the Polyguard Products, Inc. website for our
RG-2400™ family of products. If you have corrosion problems, especially
under insulation, you have come to the right place.
Our main focus for RG-2400™ has been the below ambient, under insulation
applications. Being a manufacturer of vapor barrier membranes (go to
www.polyguardproducts.com), we commonly hear of and see the problems
created by corrosion under insulation (CUI) and stainless steel stress
crack corrosion. RG-2400™ is designed for corrosion control, corrosion
prevention, and corrosion remediation without expensive surface preparation.
The RG-2400™ family
currently consists of 5 products, RG-2400 LT, RG-2400 AK, RG-2400 ET,
RG-2401,
and RG-1700. RG-2400 LT is our standard product;
it is designed for installation in ambient temperatures onto cool surfaces.
RG-2400 AK is a modified product designed for installation in cold and
ambient temperatures onto hot surfaces; it is primarily used in the Alaskan
oil fields, applied in conditions as rough as -42° F on in service
piping that is approximately 160° F. RG-2400 ET is a modified version
for service on piping which will exceed 240° F in temperature, yet
be below 350° F. RG-2401 is a modified product with a molecular weight
greater than water, specifically used ‘down hole’ in oil
wells to corrosion proof the annular space while causing any water to
come to the surface during installation. RG-1700 is a spray grade material
for temporary corrosion protection on equipment during transportation,
after arrival and installation, the equipment will be corrosion proofed
in whatever manner is designated by the end user.
RG-2400™ works
in two basic ways, one is by growing an engineered surface, or surface
conversion – creating
a surface which is unable to corrode even if moisture gets to it. The
other way RG-2400™ works, is by buffering
water vapor; as moisture passes through the gel, it is buffered to a
high pH which is alkaline enough not to corrode metal. The corrosion
process in our industry begins with water being the electrolyte that
initiates the corrosion process; other liquids and compounds can also
be the electrolyte. The moisture drive toward the pipe on below ambient
systems is our industry's major concern.
Today corrosion prevention is limited to corrosion coatings and paints
epoxy usually. If the surface preparation is not performed precisely,
this coating system will not last very long.
Though normally used to control corrosion on tanks and vessels, corrosion
on valves, corrosion on fittings and piping systems, under insulation,
(on chilled water systems, ammonia systems, brine, glycol, LNG) RG-2400™ has found other uses. Some of those uses include; down hole oil will
corrosion, corrosion on steam lines, corrosion on cyclical systems, corrosion
control on oil derrick piers, corrosion control on bridge rockers and
cabling, and for many general anti seize applications on bolts and flanges.
We are developing
a joint sealer for insulation joints which will buffer any moisture
vapor which
passes through the joints in insulation systems – better
protection for your expensive piping system.
