Most below ambient insulation systems call for all the joints to be ‘buttered’ with some type of joint sealant; some simply use silicone caulk. There are products manufactured with low perm ratings for this application.

Polyguard is developing an insulation joint sealant which will not only be low perm, but it will have the buffering system in it just as RG-2400 has.

So, if any moisture passes through the joint sealer gel, it will be buffered to a pH of 10.4 or greater so that it cannot corrode the metal surface if it reaches it.
